The purpose of this study was to verify the concurrent validity of a bar-mounted Myotest? instrument in measuring the force and power production in the squat and bench press exercises when compared to the gold standard of a computerized linear transducer and force platform system. Fifty-four men (bench press: 39-171 kg; squat: 75-221 kg) and 43 women (bench press: 18-80 kg; squat: 30-115 kg) (age range 18-30 years) performed a 1 repetition maximum (1RM) strength test in bench press and squat exercises. Power testing consisted of the jump squat and the bench throw at 30% of each subject's 1RM. During each measurement, both the Myotest? instrument and the Celesco linear transducer of the directly interfaced BMS system (Ballistic Measurement System [BMS] Innervations Inc, Fitness Technology force plate, Skye, South Australia, Australia) were mounted to the weight bar. A strong, positive correlation (r) between the Myotest and BMS systems and a high correlation of determination (R2) was demonstrated for bench throw force (r = 0.95, p < 0.05) (R2 = 0.92); bench throw power (r = 0.96, p < 0.05) (R2 = 0.93); squat jump force (r = 0.98, p < 0.05) (R2 = 0.97); and squat jump power (r = 0.91, p < 0.05) (R2 = 0.82). In conclusion, when fixed on the bar in the vertical axis, the Myotest is a valid field instrument for measuring force and power in commonly used exercise movements.  相似文献

目的:比较不同时期颈髓损伤的MRI表现及DTI的应用价值。方法:收集急性颈髓压迫病例15例、慢性颈髓压迫病例23例、颈髓慢性压迫合并急性压迫病例12例。15例健康志愿者作为对照组。进行常规MRI检查,应用DTI检查测量表现扩散系数(ADC)值和各向异性分数(FA)。比较各组间ADC值和FA值,并进行统计学分析。结果:急性颈髓迫病例,常规MRI显示颈髓增粗,呈等T1长T2信号;慢性颈髓压迫病例,9例呈长T1长T2信号,14例呈等T1长T2信号;慢性颈髓压迫并急性压迫病例颈髓明显增粗,呈等、长T1明显长T2信号。与对照组比较:急性颈髓压迫组的ADC值和FA值均明显降低,两组的差异有显著性;慢性颈髓压迫组的FA值降低,ADC值增高,两组的差异有显著性;慢性脊髓压迫合并急性脊髓压迫组ADC值与对照组比较无差异,FA值低于对照组。颈髓压迫各组间ADC值及FA值比较差异显著。结论:不同时期颈髓损伤常规MRI图像缺乏特异性,根据ADC值及FA值可判断颈髓损伤的时期。  相似文献

ABSTRACT: Evaluation of functional and structural recovery after peripheral nerve injury is crucial to determine the therapeutic effect of a nerve repair strategy. In the present study, we examined the relationship between the structural evaluation of regeneration by means of retrograde tracing and the functional evaluation analysis of toe spreading. Two standardized rat sciatic nerve injury models were used to address this relationship. As such, animals received either a 2 cm sciatic nerve defect (neurotmesis) followed by autologous nerve transplantation (ANT animals) or a crush injury with spontaneous recovery (axonotmesis; CI animals). Functional recovery of toe spreading was observed over an observation period of 84 days. In contrast to CI animals, ANT animals did not reach pre-surgical levels of toe spreading. After the observation period, the lipophilic dye DiI was applied to label sensory and motor neurons in dorsal root ganglia (DRG; sensory neurons) and spinal cord (motor neurons), respectively. No statistical difference in motor or sensory neuron counts could be detected between ANT and CI animals. In the present study we could indicate that there was no direct relationship between functional recovery (toe spreading) measured by SSI and the number of labelled (motor and sensory) neurons evaluated by retrograde tracing. The present findings demonstrate that a multimodal approach with a variety of independent evaluation tools is essential to understand and estimate the therapeutic benefit of a nerve repair strategy.  相似文献

1. We measured N and P excretion rates of 470 individuals belonging to 18 freshwater fish species widespread in Western Europe. We assessed the effect of body mass on excretion rates at both the intra‐ and interspecific levels. 2. The high variability in per capita N and P excretion rates was mainly determined by differences in body mass. The scaling coefficients of allometric relationships for both N and P excretion rates were significantly lower than 1 (mean ± SE, 0.95 ± 0.04 and 0.81 ± 0.05, respectively). 3. The slope of the allometric relationship between fish mass and nutrient excretion rate was significantly different among species. We did not detect any influence of phylogenetic conservatism on fish mass and on excretion rates. Further investigations are needed to understand the biological determinants of these differences. 4. This high intra‐ and interspecific variability in per capita excretion rates, coupled with differences in fish body mass, produce marked differences in biomass‐standardised excretion rates. These results thus indicate the necessity for further experimental and in situ investigations on the consequences of nutrient recycling by fish in freshwater ecosystems.  相似文献

During exercise-heat stress, ad libitum drinking frequently fails to match sweat output, resulting in deleterious changes in hormonal, circulatory, thermoregulatory, and psychological status. This condition, known as voluntary dehydration, is largely based on perceived thirst. To examine the role of preexercise dehydration on thirst and drinking during exercise-heat stress, 10 healthy men (21 +/- 1 yr, 57 +/- 1 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1) maximal aerobic power) performed four randomized walking trials (90 min, 5.6 km/h, 5% grade) in the heat (33 degrees C, 56% relative humidity). Trials differed in preexercise hydration status [euhydrated (Eu) or hypohydrated to -3.8 +/- 0.2% baseline body weight (Hy)] and water intake during exercise [no water (NW) or water ad libitum (W)]. Blood samples taken preexercise and immediately postexercise were analyzed for hematocrit, hemoglobin, serum aldosterone, plasma osmolality (P(osm)), plasma vasopressin (P(AVP)), and plasma renin activity (PRA). Thirst was evaluated at similar times using a subjective nine-point scale. Subjects were thirstier before (6.65 +/- 0.65) and drank more during Hy+W (1.65 +/- 0.18 liters) than Eu+W (1.59 +/- 0.41 and 0.31 +/- 0.11 liters, respectively). Postexercise measures of P(osm) and P(AVP) were significantly greater during Hy+NW and plasma volume lower [Hy+NW = -5.5 +/- 1.4% vs. Hy+W = +1.0 +/- 2.5% (P = 0.059), Eu+NW = -0.7 +/- 0.6% (P < 0.05), Eu+W = +0.5 +/- 1.6% (P < 0.05)] than all other trials. Except for thirst and drinking, however, no Hy+W values differed from Eu+NW or Eu+W values. In conclusion, dehydration preceding low-intensity exercise in the heat magnifies thirst-driven drinking during exercise-heat stress. Such changes result in similar fluid regulatory hormonal responses and comparable modifications in plasma volume regardless of preexercise hydration state.  相似文献

In mammals, Sirt1, a member of the sirtuin family of proteins, functions as a nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide-dependent protein deactylase, and has important physiological roles, including the regulation of glucose metabolism, cell survival, and mitochondrial respiration. The initial investigations of Sirt1 deficient mice have revealed a phenotype that includes a reduced lifespan, small size, and an increased frequency of abnormal sperm. We have now performed a detailed analysis of the molecular and functional effects of Sirt1 deficiency in the germ line of Sirt1 knock-out (-/-) mice. We find that Sirt1 deficiency markedly attenuates spermatogenesis, but not oogenesis. It is well established that resistance exercise can damage muscle tissue, but the combined effects of hypohydration and resistance exercise on muscle damage are unclear. Two common circulating markers of muscle damage, myoglobin (Mb) and creatine kinase (CK) may be attenuated by fluid ingestion post-exercise. The purpose of this study was to examine the combined effect of resistance exercise and hydration state on muscle damage. Seven healthy resistance-trained males (age = 23 +/- 4 years; body mass = 87.8 +/- 6.8 kg; body fat = 11.5 +/- 5.2%) completed 3 identical resistance exercise bouts (6 sets of up to 10 repetitions of the back squat) in different hydration states: euhydrated (HY0), hypohydrated approximately 2.5% body mass (HY2.5), and hypohydrated approximately 5.0% body mass (HY5). Subjects achieved desired hydration states via controlled water deprivation, exercise-heat stress, and fluid intake. Both Mb and CK were measured during euhydrated rest (PRE). Mb was also measured immediately post-exercise, 1 hour (+1H) and 2 hours (+2H) post-exercise; CK was measured at 24 and 48 hours post-exercise. Body mass decreased 0.2 +/- 0.4%, 2.4 +/- 0.4%, and 4.8 +/- 0.4% during HY0, HY2.5, and HY5, respectively. Mb concentrations increased significantly (effect size >or=1, p < 0.05) from PRE (2.6 +/- 1.1, 3.5 +/- 2.8, and 3.2 +/- 1.6 nmol x L(-1)) to +1H (5.3 +/- 3.4, 6.8 +/- 3.2, and 7.6 +/- 2.8 nmol x L(-1)), and +2H (5.5 +/- 3.8, 6.2 +/- 3.0, and 7.2 +/- 3.0 nmol x L(-1)) for HY0, HY2.5, and HY5, respectively, but were not significantly different between trials. CK concentrations remained within the normal resting range at all time points. Thus, hypohydration did not enhance muscle damage following the resistance exercise challenge. Despite these results, athletes are encouraged to commence exercise in a euhydrated state to maximize endogenous hormonal, mechanical, and metabolic benefits.  相似文献

Hypohydration (decreased total body water) exacerbates the catabolic hormonal response to endurance exercise with unclear effects on anabolic hormones. Limited research exists that evaluates the effect of hypohydration on endocrine responses to resistance exercise; this work merits attention as the acute postexercise hormonal environment potently modulates resistance training adaptations. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of hydration state on the endocrine and metabolic responses to resistance exercise. Seven healthy resistance-trained men (age = 23 +/- 4 yr, body mass = 87.8 +/- 6.8 kg, body fat = 11.5 +/- 5.2%) completed three identical resistance exercise bouts in different hydration states: euhydrated (EU), hypohydrated by approximately 2.5% body mass (HY25), and hypohydrated by approximately 5.0% body mass (HY50). Investigators manipulated hydration status via controlled water deprivation and exercise-heat stress. Cortisol, epinephrine, norepinephrine, testosterone, growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor-I, insulin, glucose, lactate, glycerol, and free fatty acids were measured during euhydrated rest, immediately preceding resistance exercise, immediately postexercise, and during 60 min of recovery. Body mass decreased 0.2 +/- 0.4, 2.4 +/- 0.4, and 4.8 +/- 0.4% during EU, HY25, and HY50, respectively, supported by humoral and urinary changes that clearly indicated subjects achieved three distinct hydration states. Hypohydration significantly 1) increased circulating concentrations of cortisol and norepinephrine, 2) attenuated the testosterone response to exercise, and 3) altered carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. These results suggest that hypohydration can modify the hormonal and metabolic response to resistance exercise, influencing the postexercise circulatory milieu.  相似文献

Abstract 1. To study phenotypic effects of stress, a stress is applied to cohorts of organisms with an increasing intensity. In the absence of mortality the response of traits will be a decreasing function of stress intensity because of increasing physiological costs. We call such decreasing functions type A responses. 2. However, when stress caused mortality, some studies have found that for high stress intensities, survivors performed as well as control individuals (type B responses). We proposed that type A responses are caused by the physiological cost of stress whereas type B responses are caused by a mixture of physiological costs and selection. 3. The present study exposed Aphidius picipes wasps to an increasing duration of cold storage (cold stress), and obtained variable responses as predicted when both physiological costs and selection of resistant individuals determine the outcome. 4. When cold storage of parasitoids for biological control is desirable, research should be carried out to find (i) the temperature regime and duration of storage and (ii) the least sensitive stage for storage to minimise losses from mortality and reduction of fitness of survivors. 5. Selection by cold stress as observed in the present study could result in rapid adaptation of populations exposed to such stress.  相似文献
